This complex red bourbon coffee originates from the Kamonyi District in Rwanda’s Southern Province. Produced at the Mbizi Washing Station under the Women Coffee Extension (WCE) program, it is grown at elevations ranging from 1,600 to 1,900 meters above sea level. Additional sustainable practices such as shade tree planting, erosion control, and water recycling systems contribute to maintaining a healthy, regenerative farming ecosystem.
The WCE program supports and empowers over 800 women farmers, many of whom are widows or orphans of the 1994 genocide. Through comprehensive, hands-on training, the program equips its participants with the knowledge and skills required to produce exceptional-quality coffee while building sustainable and independent livelihoods.
This coffee thrives in the region’s fertile soils, and after harvest it is naturally processed and sun-dried for 30 to 35 days on raised drying beds. This approach brings out the coffee’s distinctive flavour characteristics, resulting in a clean, balanced, and vibrant cup, with a silky body and complex sweetness that beautifully reflects Rwanda’s rich terroir.
